Application of Lanthanum chloride

Lanthanum chloride is the inorganic compound with the formula LaCl3. It is a common salt but is mainly used in research. It is a white solid that is highly soluble in water and alcohols.
Lanthanum chloride solutions are used in various water treatment applications for industrial, municipal and aquatic waters for the control of algae growth.
Test existing water for Phosphate using a phosphate test kit. One (1) quart of the LaCl3 solution will remove 1500 ppb (parts per billion) of phosphate per 20,000 gallons of water. Add the solution by pouring into the skimmer or into the system prior to filtration.  There will be a short duration of haziness immediately after addition.  Continue filtration until water is clear.
